Connections!! (Chapter 4: Connectivity) Posted on 2015-08-12 by Evangeline Greenko

What an awesome day! Another chapter down, another test aced, and another great studio session! This week was about connectivity, short and sweet lesson. To see the changes in converters over time was really interesting. I really wish that I could get to see more of the analog stuff "hands on" because I find it fascinating. I know that this industry is moving into the digital direction but it would still be cool to see where it all originated.

The power of a patchbay is really amazing. For the studio session that I sat in on, Brad knew the artist really well. He knew that we would need to use a converter to play the beats from the artist's laptop while he recorded vocals. This converted the normal -10dB line that a laptop generally uses to the +4 dB pro level that we needed to record. I got to patch the converter into the patchbay myself (with Brad's assistiance of course)! Woohoo!

The session itself was really rad. The artist was working on on hook piece and another hook piece with one verse. He made the beats himself and they were BANGIN'! That is something that I hope to do myself in the future. I have GarageBand but I've been a bit scared to even start anything on it. No better time to start then now, right?! Looks like I know what I'm doing for the rest of the night: FACING MY FEARS! Let's do this!

Until next time... Cheers!
