Chapter Six: Microphone Placement Posted on 2015-08-31 by Evangeline Greenko

What a cool week! I got to do my first lab by placing microphones and I got to work with the lovely Lolah Brown and writer, Jay Sean in the studio. What a blessing! It was amazing to see their writing process and to see the song develop. Jay Sean would hum along a melody and record that. Then he would listen to it, get the flow, and start laying down lyrics! It was neat to see how Jay and Lolah collaborated on the mood and the direction that the lyrics would flow. I can't wait to for that track to drop, I've been huming it all week!

Now, onto the lab/lecture... Holy cow! I'm not gonna lie, I'm starting to feel a bit more nervous again. There are so many variables and options and other things to consider about microphone placement, it's a bit overwhelming. I am definitely going to reread chapter five again, as well as research different microphones that were not mentioned in the lesson-especially the ones that my studio has. That being still, I really enjoyed the miking lab that I did with Brad. I got to mic a drum kit, an electric guitar, and a baby grand piano. I took a bunch of pictures that you can find on my Imgur page at:

I'm super excited to get ProTools and learning that so sitting in on sessions will be a little more productive. Now I just have to get this tracking lesson done!

Until next time, cheers!
