4th Blog entry (Chapter 4 session) Posted on 2015-03-12 by Christopher Red

Today I had my 4th studio session covering Chapter 4 (Connectivity). First off, I found it amazing how many different cables there are involved in audio engineering. It's interesting to know how these cables actually work and why its important to have that knowledge when connecting audio devices including but not limited to amps, mixers, etc. I really enjoy taking what I've learned going over the chapter at home and having my mentor provide great visual and audio examples to solidfy the information in my mind. As you can tell, his ability to do that will be a prevailing opinion of mine throughout my sessions. Dick demonstrated the differences between low impedance and high impedance connections using an electric guitar, a guitar amp, a direct box and the studio mixer. It was interesting to hear how the actual quality of sound was affected as those connections were altered. When discussing the topic of patch bays, I was able to see the convience it provides when working with multiple studio hardware devices. Dick explained one way he recently used the patch bay along with an ISDN box to send the audio from his studio session to another session across the country. That connection allowed the sessions to be viewed and heard simultaneously in both locations. So Once again I had a great session and feel I'm learning at a much more effective rate with this program.
