6th Blog entry (Chapter 6 session) Posted on 2015-04-09 by Christopher Red

Today I had my 8th studio session with my mentor Dick Orr, covering Chapter 6(Microphone Placement). In my studio session last week we touched on some of the basics of mic placement, so this week we really got into more depth on the topic. Dick really emphasized the mono milking techniques and how experience really allows you to know when to use a certain setup for a particular situation. He also showed me examples of "ambience" using a track one of his students was working on. He also further explained which mics work well for certain instruments as well as with certain vocalists. Like I said in my last blog entry, having a wide selection of mics now seems to be a crucial component to having a professional studio setup. The amount of detail that goes into mic placement was something that never really occurred to me until now. Proper mic placement now seems like one of the most important aspects of recording quality audio. Can't wait to start putting this knowledge to work and experimenting with my own setup.
