Today was a pretty fun day to be in the studio. My mentor taught me some new things on the piano and that was diminished and augmented chords. What diminished and augmented chords are, are chords that would usually be played like in a blues/jazz piece and it sounds really cool. As the studio session progressed, we went into talking more about Chapter 5: Microphones. We left off with talking about Dynamic and Condenser microphones the last session but today, he showed me a little how some of the condenser microphones work. He showed me one of his condenser microphones has a switch and the switch allows you to record, lets say a little music group that has like a guitar in one corner, a mandolin in one corner, and a violin in the other corner. With the switch on the omni-directional setting, this allows you to have a more 360 degree sound coming from all of the instruments. With the switch on the cardioid setting, if the mic was to just aim at the guitar, the mic would only pick up the guitar. After we went over that, we continued to work on my reproducing of my project song and so far, its coming along quite good. This was how my day in the studio went today!
