Devin Morales — Arizona Recording Connection
Audio Engineer, Song writer/MC, and a Music Producer
Self taught as of now, which is why I am so glad to have this opportunity at The Recording Connection to learn hands on with a pro who has been in the industry I have admired for years of my life now.
My goal is to extend the limits of what is believed to be possible with hiphop.
I am an audio engineer from Phoenix, Arizona with a true passion and love for all things music related. I began to love what music was at a very young age and considering my parents were both deadheads I was naturally drawn to the more spacey style music with swift drums and mellow/soothing bass lines yet hazy melodies to contrast them. As I grew older I gradually started shifting over to enjoy the sound of 90s hip hop and soul music. Unlike most people of my generation I was not attracted to the new sound of hiphop and R&B. I guess you could say that for a while there I was stuck in the 90s wave of music. But that all changed when I started writing my own songs and recording them in my room. My songs were just so blah and boring and I had no idea what it was, I just knew my voice did not stand out properly over any beat. I knew I did not have the ideal studio setup but I was very confused. Mind you I was only 15 at the time, which also made it genuinely scary asking people for their opinions on a song that I made, knowing i cant even enjoy the song myself. So I emailed and emailed the producer with a drive link to listen to the song over and over and over... Just looking to get a second opinion, and it was maybe by the 20th email over about a months time that he responded... and with something along the lines of \"lyrics and flow are cool but syou need to work on the mix, it is terrible. and invest into a good mic.\" I sat there reading the email for an hour straight just listening to the song with one thing on my mind...\"what the heck is a mix?!\"
That is where all of the research began, and from there I have evolved so much just from trial, error, and hours. Lots and lots of hours.
*NOT COMPLETE* finish asap.
