Chapter Seven Posted on 2017-04-28 by Chelsea George

In Chapter Seven I learned the importance of tracking. The book explained that the first step to creating a great record is planning. I now understand that the more you know about a project the better you can prepare. I know to start with a list of the name of songs I will be recording, the band name and member instruments, and the specific instrumentation. It is also a good idea to include tempos, keys, meter, and song length. Chapter seven also explained mic selection and setting up for a session. I now know that it is important to already have a input list and a plot map drafted up.

In the studio, Renegade went over tracking spaces. He showed me the live session room where live recording of bands are recorded with multiple mics and he also showed me the recording booth. It was very interesting and informative when I got to sit through a live recording session of Gip from the Dungeon Family as he recorded a verse for a song they where tracking. I was also introduced to Big Boi, whom is the owner of Stankonia Studios. I also met Sleepy Brown and Big Boi's drummer, DJ, and assistant. During the recording session I learned the important of adding tones to the track and how to punch in on a track, this will be very useful in making me a fast and efficient engineer.
