Chapter Nine Posted on 2017-05-10 by Chelsea George

In chapter 9 I learned about the playback engine which is a device through which audio from Pro Tools is being played back on. I know that in my computer I use my saffire.  In chapter 9 I also learned about the H/W Buffer and this is the hardware buffer size is the number of audio samples that the CPU passes to and from the I/O hardware in one go. Chapter 9 also explained latency and that latency is defined by the amount of time it takes for a digital signal to go from one place to another. I learned that an analog signal has almost no latency.

In the studio Renegade showed me the importance of the buffer and that the buffer provides a steady stream of data to the processing components of the system. He also explained that the digital signal path to your DAW is unrestrained until the digital signal is processed by using plugins. I also learned that plugins can cause  a lot of latency, but latency can be compensated for with the lookahead feature in some plugins allows for better transient response. In the studio Renegade also went over the Pro Tools Edit and Mix widows. He explained in details the zoom buttons and their key commands and the edit tools. We even tracked a recording session so that I can see these features in action!
