Chapter 10 explains the use of plugins and processing. Plugins can enhance your sound and the way you work. A plugin is defined as a software component used to add capabilities to a larger host of software. In chapter 10 I learned about the different variety of plugins like AAX (Avid Audio Extension) and Native Vs. DSP which states that Pro Tools comes in two basic varieties, The Pro Tools Native System, and Pro Tools HD system and the main difference between HD systems and non-HD system is processing. This meaning that Non HD Systems use the processing resources of your computer and the HD system use the processing for Pro Tools, through the use of dedicated DSP cards that are installed in the computer itself or exist as a separate piece of hardware.
In the studio Renegade explained inserts and sends. He explained that INSERTS are placed directly in the audio path and process 100% of the signal. He stated that SENDS take a copy of the signaled send it to a user defined effects processor and then rejoin the signal path. Inserts are used for dynamic and frequency based processing, and sends are used for modulating or time based effects. For chapter 10 I had to turn in a project to my mentor using the AudioSuite to make sounds from Sine Wave. Renegade said that I did a great job and I learned how the AudioSuite allows me to process a selected clip with a plugin and render the file permanently affected.
