Today was the hardest lesson to date! I think my brain still hurts. Today I was given the task of doing a "cookie cutter" mix. This is where you throw all your creativity to the side and just try to reproduce the 2 track given to you. I was attempting to reproduce one of Rafael's mixes. His mixes are absolutley amazing so this was a duanting task to say the least!
I started out by trying to listen to each individual instrument, trying to seperate there sound from the rest of the 2 track working from the drums up ward. I found that his snare sounded like a completley different snare then the one I had. It took me a while to get it to crack half as good as his. His mixes always sound so big, and they always have so much depth. I've mentioned previously that I have a problem of over using reverbs and delays and today was no exception. I think it will just take a lot more practice until I can be as good as Rafael.
