Surround Mixing
What is surround sound? Surround sound is a type of audio output or a technique in which helps enrich the sound reproduction quality of an audio source, which sound appears to surround the listener providing sound from a 360° radius. Surround sound systems uses three or more channels and speakers in front and behind the listeners to create a more realistic effect.
5.1 Speaker placement:
5.1 Speaker placement is when five full-range monitors that are positioned in a circular arc, with speakers being placed at equal distances to the listener (the person in the center). Three of the speakers are placed in front, with the center speaker being placed right in center at 0° and the left and right speakers being placed 30° arcs to the center point each. The surround speakers are then placed behind the listener at a 110° arc to the center point.
In our studio we sadly do not have surround sound so I was not able to play around and see what it's like but it would have been fun to be able to be engulfed in music in the studio. An example of surround sound would be going to watch a movie. They use surround sound to give the movie a better. nicer effect than if you were to just watch something at home on your laptop. Sound varies depending on what the output it's coming out from.
