I had a little background on this chapter from my experiences recording myself and my friends making songs on my computer. I remember when I went to purchase my first studio quality mic (AKG Perception 120) and the interface I had at the time didn't have phantom power. I was like "what the heck is phantom power" . Then the guy at guitar center explained that mics take energy, so I had to buy phantom power seperate and run the mic to the phantom power, and the phantom power to the interface. Now i have a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and it comes with phantom power which is super convenient. Less cords haha. But it was nice to learn more about mics and how they pick up sound in different ways. It's also good to know the history of whatever you're doing. I think the pick-up patterns were my biggest take away from the chapter. That and how different mics actually work. It was also nice to know industry favorite mics that all professional studios will have. So let me get on that U87 haha.
