On the shorter side Chapter 6 was really about knowing whats good for what situation. Its not always as striaghtforward as put the act in front of the mic and let it rip. The quality of the recording makes a TREMENDOUS difference. That can be the difference between a great mix and an okay mix. Not to mention adding a ton of extra work for the engineer. Ira (the owner of Maximus Music Records) was telling me when I was interning one day that the mic being too close to an act can pick up like biological functions haha. He was talking about like the movement of a persons toungue or their jaw and stuff that just doesn't need to be recorded. He said his rule of thumb was at least 1 foot away from the mic. You cant really go wrong with that. Different mics might be better for different situations. And different mics and take more of a beating then others.....*drops mic*.
