This week's lesson was on the Basics of Pro Tools. This was a very interesting chapter in this week's material. There wasn't much material to be tested on in the first section of this chapter. It was mainly about how to install Pro Tools and different specs required for your operating system. The ideas of this chapters were pretty easy to understand, given my 5 years experience of working with FL Studio. There are some similarities with some of the edit tools and functions among Pro Tools and FL Studio. I had no problem understanding the slight differences in Pro Tools. I also enjoyed learning the shortcut key commands on different functions, such as how to import audio tracks to your project and switching between the mix and edit windows. While learning the material online, I would go to Pro Tools on my computer and implement the quick keys shortcuts that I just learned! After making 100% on this week's quiz, it was time to go back to Knothole Recording Studio in Weddington with Boo!
This week, Boo and I started from scratch on a song that he's writing. I'm really excited for this one to be finished! It's called Yesterday Has Gone. We started by recording acoustic guitar and doubling that with another. We then talked about what kind of drum beat that the song should have. I had lots of fun with helping write the drum part! Boo and I had the same idea on what the drum part should be. We then programmed the drum part with his Steven Slade drum plug-in. Boo asked for some ideas in the chorus on what I thought would sound cool. I told him what I would do if I were the drum set player writing and playing that part. I said "This would be a fun and kinda flashy if I was sitting behind a set". Boo trusted my 13 years experience in helping write the drum part. After the drum track was done, we recorded a bass guitar track, played by Boo. The track was really coming together with the addition of the bass track! Always a great time with Boo at his beautiful studio, Knothole Recording Studio!
