Week 12 lesson material was on Mixing songs inside of your DAW (Pro Tools, FL Studio, etc.). Mixing is the creative process of deciding where the volume levels should be, where the panning of the audio should be in the mix, and adding effects to for creating even more sound possibilities. All of these affect one another and has to be done very carefully. The five years of experience of producing with FL Studio has been a major advantage in my studies with Recording Connection! To have a better understanding of exactly what I do has been incredible! At the end of this section, there is an assignment to pick one the songs that Recording Connection has posted the tracks parts for and edit it using Pro Tools and by their given directions. Since I'm a sucker for live strings and choral works, I chose the Vivaldi piece, "Domine Fili Unigenite". This piece was recorded by Monterey Choral Society. After making an A on another quiz, it was time to see Boo at Knothole Recording Studio for more studio time!
During this session, Boo and I did mix work on one of the songs that Province of Thieves finished up tracking on. We started by making some tuning adjustments to the bass part. Then we did some slight tuning on the vocal tracks (lead and backups). After that, we worked on the acoustic guitar tracks, giving them their correct pannings and adding reverb to give them some depth within the overall mix. Boo told me that the Thieves said that he could add some more percussion parts to their track, so we added some more of my favorite instruments! I jumped on controls of the computer and Tascam and added some shaker, cabasa, and tambourine tracks. When deciding on what to do for the tambourine part, Boo and I had the same initial idea. The difference in the track from when I started to when I left. That track really made some progress! I'm very glad in the opportunity of learning under Boo! This was all a great studio session day!
