David LuisChicago Recording Connection

Week 4 12/29/14 - 1/4/15 Posted on 2015-01-07 by David Luis

Connectivity

Chapter 4 starts off by diving into some of the hardware used in the studio for recording.  It mainly talks about the cables involved, both analog and digital, as well as some protocols and path bays.  Depending on the instrument, vocal or patch bay different cables are needed for different jobs.  Choosing the wrong cable can affect the quality of the recording or even completely ruin your session.  Like in any project, it’s all in the preparation. One wrong input may even cause you to reset everything, making time and profits go out the window.

If this course and specifically this chapter were about human anatomy this would all be about the brain. Where and how signals are sent is key to having the most cost efficient sessions. Though this chapter may be a bit meticulous it is easily one of the more important. The silver lining is that once this process is out of the way, the real fun begins.
