Microphones

Chapter 5 starts off with some brief history of the microphone, the improvements made upon it over time, and how today’s model isn’t that much different. It goes on to mention the different types of mics, what makes them unique, and how they function. I found it quite interesting that the invention of the microphone sparked the influence to invent the telephone. Though Alexander Graham Bell is credited with both inventions he actually bought the rights for the microphone before installing it in a phone.

I feel one of the biggest things this chapter and my instructor pointed out was microphone selection. The right selection in itself is does a lot of the equalizing for your recording session. That’s not to say it does it all for you, but it can eliminate much unwanted time, energy, and money.  When you learn to avoid that issue your running a much smoother ship and then the real fun begins!
