My second session at Miller Street Studios with Joe was another review of basic material, but served as an important lesson for the importance of electrical power in the studio. Our discussion included talking about the difference between direct and alternating currents and using power conditioners (he uses two Furman M-80x's) to control power in the booth. Power conditioners seem to be vital for any studio because they protect the energy source, provide a steady stram of energy, surge protect, and block out EMI and FRI. Aside from the lesson, Joe had a client in the studio named Terrell Boyd who goes by Risn. Terrell is a very talented rapper, but also is unique in the way that he send a message of nonviolence in his music. I was able to experience first hand recording his lyrics, adding ins/outs and ad libbing, and overdubing vocals. I wish him the best in his pursuit to teach kids and adolescents about the importance of resolving issues without resorting to violence.
