Microphones Posted on 2015-08-06 by Joey Lieberman

This week was a big one in terms of filling in some of the blank spaces in my previous audio education. I haven't gotten a chance to experiment with too many mics and really listen to them side by side, so it was an awesome experience getting to do just that in the studio this week with Joe. We compared the Neumann U87 with the Neumann m147 and a custom AKG c12, and analyzed each one's strengths and weaknesses and what scenarios they might function well in. In the past I've seen these mics and others used in the studio but I've never had a chance to listen to them side by side and really compare the two hands-on. I now feel like I have a strong grasp over the concepts of SPL and frequency response and how those can dictate which mics I should be using in certain situations. Overall, definitely a great week.
