My first blog ever! Posted on 2013-08-08 by Stephen Dodd

Hi people since I'm going to be doing this often I wanted to take this first blog and make it about my past in music.  In 5th grade my mom told me I was going to join the school band which I remember throwing a fit to because I didn't want the band geek title over my head (it's amazing how much I cared about social status at the time).  Nevertheless I didn't have a choice so we went in on the day of sign up where you would try out the different instruments and pick out one you liked.  I know I tried out allot of them but I only remember playing the saxophone and trombone because I had narrowed down my choices to those, but my final decision was obvious because the guy demonstrating saxophone was a tool, I picked trombone.

Moving into middle school I remember absolutely hating trombone, I'm not sure why though, I think it had to do with the fact that all of my friends at the time were focused more on sports.  Regardless this was  also the time I first played guitar, my dad and I decided it would be could if I did some private lesson stuff.  I remember the first song I learnt was smoke on the water by deep purple.  The whole thing was fun especially because my little brother played drums, but after awhile I just wanted to stop, so I did,  which is one of my main regrets.. what can you do.

So in highschool was where my interests started to change, I gradually got sick of sports and found myself liking trombone more, also this was a time when my friends we're forming the band I would soon become a part of.  Then in sophmore year it happened they needed a bass player and they new I use to play guitar so they asked me and I said yes, which brings a whole new timeline in my life which I'll save for another time.  Anyways this was where it all started, it was when my music interests changed, it was when I started to not care what other people thought, it was when I stared looking at the world differently, which sounds cheesy but it's true.

 I'll continue this another time.

Thanks for reading!
