2nd blog, been awhile. Vegetarianism. Posted on 2013-09-10 by Stephen Dodd

So I was thinking about writing about my band or maybe my music interests, but I'll save that for another time.  Today I feel like talking about vegetarianism and me being one. Why would someone want to be a vegetarian?  Great question! There are many reasons the main two, in my opinion, are ethics and health. My personal reason for "going veg" is ethics and what introduced me to this idea was punk music, specifically the band Rise Against.  About 3 years ago I was a hardcore fan of this band so naturally I researched them and discovered they are strong advocates of animal rights and work with organizations like PETA.  Then doing my own research into field I started seeing a lot of things I didn't like the biggest being the general abuse of animals.  The more and more I learned about what I was eating the more guilty I felt, so I set a date, January 1, 2012, and I haven't ate anything that was alive at sometime since then.  Living in a pretty rural area the reactions I got when people started figuring out I was a vegetarian were mixed, my parents had both known since day 1, my Dad was very supportive and now is a vegetarian too, my Mom was weirded out by it out first but now supports me.  This simple fact of supportive parents I am extremely thankful for as some people are not so lucky.  In terms of the reactions of my peers they were surprisingly okay and normal about it, aside from a sudden worry for my health, which at this point is annoying.  In general though everything about it for me is good, the biggest being the mental part, knowing I don't have blood on my hands is so relieving.

I could write about this forever but I have to leave now. Have any questions or comments? Contact me.

Later kids,

-Stephen
