Chapter 18 Lesson Posted on 2015-05-11 by Zach Manon

The acustics and monitoring chapter went over a review of room acustics and how theway they are used can effect the sound of a recording and or mix. Monitor speakers and the importance of their placement were also covered. I got to sit in on some pretty cool sessions this week. One was with a group of Columbia students recording a full band for a project in one of their classes. They had a saxophone player, Roger Carroll, come in who had just moved to Chicago from Virginia. Roger was very skilled and had a beautiful sounding saxophone, which I asked him about. He said he had gotten it back in Virginia in the 80's from a guy who bought it used from the U.S. military and they bought it brand new in 69. I also sat in on a session with Nick Tremulis, the front man of Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra, and Rick Barnes, the owner of Rax Trax and one of the guitarists in the Nick Tremulis orchestra. They were recording jingles for the Illinoise lottery commercials and it was reaaly fun to watch some seasoned veterans work on something that millions of people were going to expierience.
