This week int the studio we went in depth on sample rate and bit depth. I understand that sample rate is how many "pictures" per second are taken of a sound wave, and bit depth is more like the resolution of the sound. I understand that a sample rate of 48k and 24bits is the industry standard for recording, and 44.1k and 16bit is the standard for CD. I understand the Nyquist theorem and how it relates to sample rate. I learned the difference between lossy, lossless, and uncompressed file formats. External hardrives, digital audio recorders, samplers, sequencers, synthesizers, we covered it all!
Hands on, I got to work with RADAR a bit, and the mixing console for signal flow. I routed the CD player to the studio floor monitors, to the MS microphones I set up to create a MS style stereo image.
