My first week in the studio with my mentor, Rick Rooney! Whew, I made it. I am truly humbled to have this opportunity to build onto my musical knowledge with learning the ins and outs of audio engineering. Of course I was a bit nervous at the beginning, but soon relaxed in the setting of the studio and enjoyed the experience. Here are a few things that I was introduced to initially:
- Starting up the equipment needed during a recording session
- Managing the volume controls for each instrument and microphone
- Learning the "language" of the studio
- Initiating Pro Tools software on the computer
By the time I returned to the studio for the second session, I was more relaxed and excited about being able to watch another engineer as he manipulated the boards and equipment while musicians played. I also had the opportunity to play the piano in the studio to show the guys my level of skill. It was great to receive encouragement from other musicians and particularly to have one of the guys suggest using my keyboard skills on some of his tracks in the future.
During my personal time at home, I have been working on creating several beats for one of my older brothers on my keyboard. I also restarted vocal training with an instructor to strengthen my range and pitch. As you can see, this has been a busy week but this is what I've always loved. To hear a sample of my keyboard skills and vocals, feel free to visit my Facebook page (My Musical Journey group) at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1545549112324087/. I would love any feedback.
