I began singing in church at an early age and always loved to listen to great gospel artists like Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, and Shirley Caesar. When I found that Shirley Caesar would be performing at one of the local churches near my home, I decided to go with my grandmother, who is also a big fan. The excitement was in the air and when she began singing the song "Jesus", she asked if there was anyone in the audience that could come up and sing with her. My grandmother and several people around me, encouraged me to go up on the stage.
The first two people to sing with her did a great job. When it was my turn, I sang and surprised a lot of people in the audience with my vocal range, including Mrs. Caesar. She was jumping around and pointing her finger upward for me to go "higher and higher". She picked two of the best singers, myself and one other person and directed us to front row seats for the remainder of the performance. At this point, I am in awe of what I had just done.
Before the show was over, Shirley Caesar asked me to return to the stage, congratulated me on how well I sang, and presented me with $100. She asked what I would do with the money, telling me to make sure that I pay my tithes in church.
Needless to say, that was one of the best nights of my life. I love the feel of being on stage and performing.
You will see me soon!
