Mission Accomplished Posted on 2014-12-04 by Oscar Galvan

The highlight of the day on this lesson's meeting was the successful completion of proper mixing and mastering of my song.

I caught a few issues that slipped by both of us on the first run-through of the processing so we re-did some of it this time and it sounded a lot better. We didn't have to redo the entire thing, but just a few processes.

The combination of John's mixing and mastering turned a "good" sounding song into a final polished product with all the in-your-face attitude that any decent electronic song should have. I listened to the final master file back at my house with my monitors and headphones individually and it sounded very clear and crisp, yet ambient. John did a great job of developing a stereo image of the song. That was my biggest issue with my original mix. It sounded good, but a bit too mono. I always have a hard time deciding what to pan where but I'm slowly learning that art by watching John do it to my own song. Most of the session was concentrated on finishing the track once and for all until it sounded professional. John did not disappoint.

I will be bringing a 2nd track that I just started working on a couple weeks ago and finishing up. Bouncing out all the audio for porting to Pro Tools will be the biggest time consumer, but after seeing what John can do with it, it will all be worth it.
