chapter 3 blog! Posted on 2015-03-01 by Chris Hahn

This lesson helped me understand the Nyquist Theorem and the real differences between Analog and Digital. There are a lot of engineers that still swear by analog and after this chapter, I can understand why. Digital is easy, effective and the way of the future for recording. But you can never fully get the same sound from digital as you can analog. Even though Digital is quieter. In studio Pete explained to me the difference between polyphonic and monophonic. He also explained and showed me how to set oscillators in pro tools. We went over synthesizers and samplers, and talked about when they were first introduced. We also went over the importance of making sure your line signal isn't clipping before you add a plug in like compression. Even though it does not show its clipping after the fact, if you remove the plug in you will see that it is and you need to leave some head room depending on the plug in being applied.
