3.24.13_3 to 5:15_Lesson 2

Lesson 2 was really fun. The book work, covered sound treatment and monitors. There are four studio types that are common in todays sound industry: Professional music studios, audio-for-visual production environments, project studios, and portable studios. The modern DAW's give anyone the opportunity to work in any of the four environments with the portable studio having the most range. Focusing on the professional studio set up, all the details from how to build a floating floor and why its important, to explaining the specific windows and doors that are required to create the ultimate recording environment. My mentor and I took some time to analyze the studio and understand what diffusers and bass traps are, and why you don't want any 90 degree corners in the control room.

Dub Media uses two JBL Active Monitor speakers that act as both near field monitors and far field monitors.Today I was introduced to the Yamaha NS-10 Monitor that sits under the mixing console and provides the smooth sub bass that I love so much. Today I also learned about hi-pass and lo-pass filtering and why its important while mixing. I realized that this is the key to having a mix sound crispy clean as opposed to a drowning muddy sound because specific parts of the project are battling with each other. In Pro Tools I EQ'ed a sample track at the end of my session with Carl.

Another informative session at Dub Media. Carl answered my questions with knowledgeable answers and I learned alot. Looking forward to next week's session!
