This was my first week in the Recording Connection program. I got to meet my mentor and we went over the first chapter together. After that, we worked on some sound design in Massive that I had questions on. He also showed me how to make an 808 kick with a basic sine wave. We were together for about 2 hours. I got some very good information on which producing program I should go with; either Ableton or Pro Tools 11. I also talked to him about getting a MacBook Pro, and what the benefits of producing on a Mac would be versus a PC. He answered all of the questions that I had about some synth design that I was having a problem with. I told him that I liked to have homework (since I'm used to traditional schooling) and he told me to work on making an 808 kick, a lead synth, and a pluck sound in Massive. He also told me to work on the Send Effect for Reverb in FL Studio 10, since that's what I'm currently using to produce. He told me the reverb effect is similiar to David Guetta's build ups, telling me he turns the decay up on the reverb as the buildup gets closer to the drop, and then the 1 bar in between the buildup and the drop he usually cuts all the reverb immediately. I really enjoyed working with my mentor Ryan Conway this week, and I'm even more excited for next week.
