Lesson 1- 1/3/13 Posted on 2013-01-20 by Ryan Catlett

Time In: 1700

Time Out: 1900

I arrived at Colorado Sound about 15 minutes early, and was instantly impressed with the layout and the decor of the studio before I saw any of the recording rooms.  Tammy, the secretary, was very friendly and warm to talk to while I waited for Jesse to finish up with his session.  She gave me some history on the studio, the capabilities of the recording rooms and the mobile studio, and talked with me about my goals and intentions in engineering.

The first lesson Jesse focused on more of an introduction to recording and engineering.  We covered and reviewed the basic definitions, terms, and theory of audio engineering.  He explained in detail career opportunities within the industry, terminology that we will be using throughout the course, fundamentals of sound, and he got a general idea of what my goals were upon entering the recording industry.

I really enjoyed my first lesson and Jesse has a great way of explaining things.  The reading text in the workbook and the textbook is very informative, but I am the type of person that needs to see it before I really get a good grasp on it.  Jesse has a great method of making new information more simple to understand and he made sure I understood what he was talking about before he moved on to another topic.  I look forward to my next lesson.
