Alan HolmesEdmonton Recording Connection

At the time of writing this, the link between the living and the dead is now closed (aka Halloween is over, November has sprung, and week 4 of the program has come to a close). Week 4 was quite the success. A relatively quiet week this time around, the main focus was centered on solely Chapter 4 (not withstanding Halloween, program wise). Now, Chapter 4 was mostly straightforward. Lots of memorising vs. concepts. However, I found my previous time in the studio to have been greatly beneficial here. When previously working with Something Mechanical, we'd set up mics for drums, vocals, for the various guitar amps, etc. And with all of the setup and connecting different connectors (I'd made the mistake of referring to connectors as plug ins, learning to get out of that habit) I'd already recognized many of the connectors discussed and shown throughout the lesson. So it was a bit of a relief and extremely helpful to have that prior knowledge. Made it far simpler to understand.

As for the studio work itself, I mostly worked on patchbays, and learning how to properly connect them by following the established map in the studio. It was more stessful than it needed to be (I put that stress on myself) and felt like a lot of information to digest. Although, I am proud of myself for being able to take things slow and figure it out. Slowing down and breathing is something I need to remind myself almost constantly. And last Wednesday I felt like I succeeded at that. And after some good ole' breathing and level headed thinking, I was able to figure out the the flow of the channel. Practice makes perfect. Experience and exposure will continue to help. Can only go up.
