Catch Up and the Fifth Amendment Posted on 2014-11-18 by Alan Holmes

While not actually being an amendment, this blog entry does serve back to the fifth chapter/lesson/quiz/in-studio session: microphones. Hectic week, very hectic. Life's been very busy lately. And of course, a large part of the busy times is the program and specifically this chapter, which I was just able to squeeze out in its finished form in time for Wednesday's session. And let's face it ladies and gentleman, that's the lemonade we're here for.

Luckily, the microphones chapter wasn't overly difficult largely due to previous knowledge I'd gained from recording prior to RRF as well as some of the instudio things that I've worked on with James. So that's helped immensely. Particularly when we'd set up the mics on the drum kit for Something Mechanical. We had went through and discussed several different mics, as to what would pick up sound the best. With that prior knowledge in mind I recognized a lot of what the chapter discussed. Although memorizing the different mics has been a different story. There's so many, some of which look very similar, and the names often consist of mere digits, numbers and letters. In all honesty that's been more confusing than anything. If I can memorize scripts I can memorize this. Time will help.
