Alan HolmesEdmonton Recording Connection

9 Posted on 2014-12-20 by Alan Holmes

Like a generic name for an album (such as both Beyonce's and One Direction's fourth albums each being entitled '4') this ninth blog post shall simply be titled... '9'. What can I tell you? Whoever you may be, if in fact anyone is reading this. The thing about 9... 9 the blog entry, 9 the chapter, 9 the lesson, 9 the quiz... is that it's all been one messy, screeching hell-on-earth blur. And the reason being is simple; techology. Technology and I have never been the best of friends. At times we've rubbed each other the wrong way, who hasn't? There'd be the occassional glare and nuisance. But we'd also often be able to get along just fine. Carry out some polite conversation in the least. But alas, not lately. Although I do understand Pro Tools is (apparently) designed to be a tricky install, the instillation itself really isn't the problem. Well, that's not entirely true, it was certianly difficult. But once Pro Tools was finally installed on my device I was unable to open it and couldn't use it at all. iLock was in and engaged everything seemed right. But I was greeted with a lovely message informing me that my system was lacking hardware. This led to a wild goose chase (internet running around) to see if anyone else had had a similar problem. Sure enough they had, and I was able to install asio4all onto my computer to fix the problem. Except that it hadn't. For whatever reason (god help me I don't know why) I needed to reinstall Pro Tools on my computer then run asio4all with Pro Tools in order to finally get things up and running. Thank god it had. But by this time, I was vastly far behind where I'd wanted to be on the assignment and Chapter 10 was creeping up to bite me on the ass. More on that next time... (if you feel so inclined, feel free to head on over to Blog Post 10 for the exciting conclusion).
