First Day Of Class/ BAE Chapter #1 Basic Sound and Hearing (7/17/2017) Posted on 2017-07-19 by Darrel Domanico

The first day of class went well, it started at 5 pm.
The first thing I went ahead and did with my instructor, Brian Thompson at Thunder Studios Hawaii, was taking a tour around the studio. Within the studio itself, it consisted of multiple rooms. After we sat in the main recording room and reviewed the first chapter in the BAE online e-textbook, which was Sound and Hearing.
Around 6 o'clock the studio started receiving multiple clientele, who started setting up to rehearse within the multiple rooms.
Two out of the five rooms, I was delegated the task of positioning 2 mics per room by Brian.
As we headed back to his main recording room, I had met one of the bass guitar members (Nathan) who is in Brian's band.
We worked with Nathan on tracking his bass tracks for multiple songs that he and Brian had already been working on.

What I had learned from Chapter 1, sound and hearing was very interesting.
The area specifically discussing frequency and how the ear works is what had caught my attention the most.
Reason being, just recently, I had gone to a hearing specialist to evaluate my own hearing due to suspiciousness on losing my own hearing.

Ending with my test results coming back and concluding that I am losing the ability to hear high pitched frequencies in my right ear.
Therefore, I had found this chapter to be very relatable.

I learned one of the causes of my own hearing loss is due to one of the main important parts in the ear itself, the Cochlea.
Within the Cochlea, there are hair follicles that are prone to be damaged due to constant loud noises. For myself, being in the bar scene as a DJ.
I'm constantly exposed to extremely excessive and loud volumes of noises through my headphones. My headphones are usually so loud that they overpower the monitors (speakers).
Resulting in my hearing loss. So learning about the intertwinings of in the internal ear during this chapter was very informative for me.
