Automation! Posted on 2016-02-29 by Raymond Flores

this was my favorite chapter by far! i remember listening to my favorite songs which had a ton of creative automation elements to them and always wondering how it was being done. if you want a certain delay at a certain spot in a song or want something panning while the song progresses, automation will let you achieve this! there are 5 different automation modes in every DAW (off, read, touch, latch and write). TOUCH automation will start as soon as you touch and move a fader or mixer AND will automatically go back to its starting position when you let it go. LATCH automation is similar to touch. it will start writing when you move a fader BUT will stay where you left off, it will not move back to its starting position unless you manually move it yourelf. WRITE automation starts when playback starts and ends when playback ends. this mode will erase any automation data on any automation playlist. then we have READ and OFF. READ will just read the automation you previously applied and OFF will turn all automation off.
