Lesson #7 Posted on 2013-06-02 by Juan Ramirez

I got to see Dorothy do a little mastering, and she let me in on a little trick of his: she'll master a song for no more than 20-30 minutes, and then leave it alone and come back to it and re-listen to it and tweak a few things here and there. Do not overwork something or do so much to it that you change it too completely, else you risk going from making it better to making it something bad. Which brings me back to one of the golden rules: just because you can doesn't mean you should.

There was more theory, contextual history and anecdotes, but the main thing I took from this day was that I need to start writing on Protools. I have a LOT of work ahead of me.
