Lesson 17 was over Synchronization and Automation. Snchronization is the reason why audio narration, sound effects, and music can be applyed to videos in the post-production stage. Is is based off of SMPTE timecode and allows audio and video to match up perfectly. Next we talked about automation. Automation allows to you to control pans, volume, mutes, and plug-ins anywhere in a song. This is useful because you can create a stereo effects, turn the level up or down in various parts of a song, or apply reverb and delay to create emphasis. To show James and I this Aaron opened a Pro Tools session and explained some different techniques for automation. He first brought up the automation window, which lets you enable the differnt forms of automation. He then explained touch, latch and write mode. These modes allow you to control how automation is added. After that he showed us how to automate pans, volume, mutes and plug-ins. In plug-ins there is a setting that allows you to automate all of the parameters or just the ones needed. I really enjoyed learning about this because I always wondered how it worked how to utilize it. Now I can experiment with the practice sessions and strengthen my mixes.
