So my mentor is finally back from tour and I've been going to the studio a lot more which is great and this week was a really good week. I've been reading chapter four in my ebook and its all about connecting everything which was perfect for me becasue the owner of the studio John Brown, who is also one of my mentors, taugh me how to mic up a basic drum kit for a hip hop track. I think this will be very useful becuase after I master all my skills and start creating music again I definitely wanna make some tracks with live drums! The next session I had wasn't really a session actually I just had to clean all the rooms and put everything away and make it all neat which is cool I mean someone has to do it and I like my workspace organized anyways but the reason I had to do this was becasue the artist who we were doing to the session for didn't feel comfortable with me sitting in. I was offended or anything I already know as an engineer we have to make the artist feel comfortable so a left the room and stayed productive.
Yesterday's session was different I was there all day and other than cleaning and sitting in with my mentor, Trivion actually told me to go in the Studio B and open up Reason 8 and make a beat! Now beat making was something I've always wanted to do but never just went it did it like it did with rapping and recording so I took the opportunity and made the best of it I never even used reason before and it was a real challenge but after a quick run through of how everything works and how to structure me beat it was just a matter of finding sounds and making the right patterns and I actually think I did really good the beat I made was super simple but it was something you could easily rap too and after a few hours my mentor came to check on my progress and needless to say he was really impressed and told me I was a natural. Now that right that was such on incredible feeling cause I was just having fun and for him to say that just meant a lot and motivates me so much more!!
All this and more. There is a lot going on at Camel Hump Studios they have about 5 engineers and some interns and the business is booming its honestly a little hectic at times but I'm really starting to get a hang of how things work and what Camel Hump actually provides for producers and engineers. I've been meeting a lot of connections and some are already interested in working with me and I'm just an apprentice but the fact that I've been managing sessions by myself and not having to many problems its only a matter of months before I start taking in some of my own clientes. AHHH! What a wonderful feeling this is!
