Before I started reading about Mix Theory, I thought about some courses I had taken while studying music education. I thought about how to get a large ensemble to sound balanced, such as the Pyrimid of Sound. I read about how it is very similar to mixing a track, having low pitched instruments sit in the "pocket" when they don't carry the main theme to enhance the mid and treble parts as they carry the theme. I also see a running theme in concepts like mix theory: there is a guideline to doing something, but it is very subjective and situational. For example, a sound engineer does not always apply dither to a mix. My mentor had recently mixed a track, and we were able to use that track for examples, and I saw how compressors on snare and bass can really enhance the overall sound.
