This week I ran 2 short sessions. The first one was vocals for an EDM track. I used the U87 through the Neve 1272 mic pre amp. I also patched in the TLA Compressor. We got through the sessions pretty quick because the artist was just singing a hook. We did a few takes and doubled and tripled them. After that we did harmonies and Ad Libs. When we were finished I exported each file take separately because the producer was working in Logic. The session was good and the clients were very happy with the session. The second one was more complicated. It was for a producer in Italy who was video chatting me during the session. Because he couldn't make the trip to Los Angeles. He had a kids choir in to record a hook over an EDM track. I set up with Larry's help two vintage U87s on large boom stands. We also set up one U87 to record each kid separately. After setting up the mics we set up headphone boxes and headphones for the kids and the teacher. Once the kids practiced a little and the producer was ready we started recording. It was difficult because the producer would tell me what he wanted and then I would have to relay that message to the teacher of the choir over the talk back. We recorded takes of the choir as a whole group first. The producer wanted me to have them do different harmonies to the part. After we recorded the group we recorded each kid one by one. The session was only two hours but it took me an hour to export each take for each kid. The producer was also not working in Pro Tools. Overall the session was smooth and the clients were very happy.
