This week I assisted on a song for Larry and his buddies Mike and Trent. They were producing a song for the band "1975" and Larry was playing a guitar part in it. We recorded drums the usual way with every part of the kit mic'd but we had two U87s for the room and a Coles ribbon mic for the overhead this time. We then recorded percussion with the overheads and room mics. That is actually all I was able to record that day and the other engineer stepped in.
The other session I assisted this week on was for a band by the name "PVRIS". They were working with a Grammy nominated producer "Kid Harpoon". I really just help set up and mic'd the drum kit and patched them in. They were working on there lap top so Larry showed me how to set that up as well. They had their own engineer so I just sat in the other room listening to all the cool sounds they were creating.
Larry went over Auto Tune again this week and also Beat Detective. He wanted to make sure I knew how to use them well. He said that it will get me work in the future because that is what no one wants to do it because it's tedious. He pulled up one of the tracks he was working on and showed me his workflow using Beat Detective and also showed me graph mode in Auto Tune. I feel more confident now when working with both of these plug-ins.
