This week's lesson was very valuable as I learned a simple beginner mistake that too many people make, which is adding more and more layers every 16 to 32 beats. This means that much of the mix could be compromised from too many instruments eating up the same frequencies. Another helpful tip was to start with mixing the drums, bass, then mids, and everything else, which I luckily have done in the past, but only because it was my methodical approach to music production and not for mixing songs.
I attended my first open mic night last week and I came across a really talented singer who I exchanged information with. This open mic night along with a few others I've found seem like they are mostly an open forum for comedians though a few musicians are sprinkled in there. The hardest part of attending is just finding the right moment to introduce yourself and have an opportunity to connect with the artist in an effort to see if it's a good fit for collaborating with them.
