Adele's "Melt My Heart To Stone" vocal distortion? Posted on 2012-05-27 by Stephano Angel

So I was listening to Adele's track "Melt My Heart To Stone," and there seems to be some very obvious clipping/distortion going on. Not pleasant sounding, either. Just sounds like utter DAW-based clipping to me. If it's a driving pre-amp sound, still does not change the fact that it sounds way to harsh and really uncalled for, especially for the feel of the music. I have listened to multiple videos and the actual final released MP3, and they all sound the same, so it isn't Youtube compression that you are hearing. Here is one of them:

I just don't get it. Am I too naive and sonically deaf to hear that it actually sounds good? or was this an actual "mistake" the engineers made? either way, I don't really like the distortion/saturation going on. What are your opinions on this?
