Now we are given real food - the meat and potatoes of the program has been served. EQ, and soon Compression. Don't get me wrong, you have to start with a good recording. The mics you choose, effect the frequencies that are are recorded, etc. etc. The old addage "Garbage in, garbage out" comes to mind. It takes time, experience, and careful deliniation to determine how the project is recorded, so that "fixing it in the mix" can be a much less labor-intensive endeavor. This chapter contained a lot of great information about how to approach a mix from an EQ standpoint. I liked how the material was broken down, into bite size pieces so that I was able to approach my homework assignment track-by-track and slowly hear my mix coming to life. I haven't had much time with my mentor, due to his and my schedules, but hopfully we will have some time together soon so that I can get the "hands-on" component to this crucial component of the mixing process.
