Wheras chapter one had a lot of familiar information, this chapter was very new. I don't have a lot of experience in this field, and I'm not electrically savvy so I've never needed to know the difference between AC and DC currents. Likewise I've never know what exactly is the difference between digital and analog circuits, although the difference is something that is a part of my every day life. That was probably the biggest takeaway from this chapter for me. I learned about how digital circuits transfer information, and analog circuits transmit voltage.
I'm glad they include this information because that foundation really sets me up to understand the ins and outs, pros and cons, of digital sound. To illustrate this for me, my mentor showed me the difference between a digital computer motherboard and an analog counterpart from the SSL board in the control room. It was a very clear picture, and it made the distinction clear for me. This knowledge also helped me to understand microphones and how they take sound and convert it into something we in the digital age can work with. Great foundational information.
