MY FIRST DAY AT THE STUDIO Posted on 2014-04-01 by Michael Warner

First thing, my mentor and I went over the questions on my test. He than showed me a couple examples in Protools so i could better understand. My first day at the studio brought me my first session. It was jazz band that consisted of a drummer, stand up bass, piano, trumpet, and a female singer. My mentor and i went into the live room to start setting up mics and cables. I learned the do's and dont's of mic stand and cable handeling.

As the band started tracking, I overlooked the whole thing in the control room. The singer requested to be recorded in the control room, so we had to be very queit while the mic was on. I payed close attention to these jazz songs and got a feel for how jazz music works. They did two songs in about two hours.

After the band finished up, I went into the live room to clean up. I started tearing down all the mics and putting them back in there cases. I was showed the side gear room that held all the cables, stands, connectors, etc. I ended  the day by taking out the garbage, because this is also part of working in a studio.

I look forward to next week and learning lots more about the studio life and music.
