Max Bussman — Portland Recording Connection
I was born in Portland Oregon, and have lived here for pretty much my whole life. I've been doing music mashups since about 8th grade, when I started messing around with two tape decks on the stereo in my room. My oldest childhood friend and I would meet up over weekends to record, and produce our own music varrying from hip hop to rock, and blues. In highschool I worked at our schools recording studio bringing in outside clients, setting up and recording, mixing, and distributing their work. This was part of the school but was run separately as a business. Around that time I began writing songs, doing extended mashup dj mixes, and making beats for myself and others. All the while since then I have kept working on my own music, but until recently did not really share it with other people. When I did finally begin sharing my work with others I got a very positive response and so have decided to make this a focus of my life. It brings me a great deal of satisfaction when I can listen to a song I may have done over a decade ago and still think "man, this turned out pretty good!" I want to keep experimenting, making, and playing with music to create something new and enjoyable.
I want to bring elements of other music into electronic music: from doo wop, latin salsa, jazz, swing, klezmer, to various other styles from around the world and throughout time. My goal is to create hybrid genres which bring new life and interest to forgotten styles, while still exploring new ones. I also enjoy finding two songs which would normally never be played in the same setting, and making them work together so well that it's hard to imagine them apart.
