Chapter One - Sound & Hearing 162203 Posted on 2016-03-23 by Kevin Gruber

My first weekend in the studio was great! It started out with my 1 hour review with Chris where he gave me another, more in depth, tour of the studio and what equipment he uses on a regular day-to-day basis. He also showed me the basic routing from the outboard compressor to the pre amp, and the interface. Inside of the studio's live recording room, Chris showed me how to "normal" the room, how to properly place the microphone,  and I was also familiarized with the toolbox! I also learned the studio's organizing method, date format (Hence the title), and even the session templates that we'll be using everyday in the studio. To start off the day, I sat in on a 2 hour vocal recording session with a very talented, energetic singer-songwritter tracking all of the vocals for her upcoming EP! Instantly, I picked up on a million small things that Chris does in his workflow  that greatly increase speed and overall efficiency. I was blown away by how fast the session was progressing, and I never ever would've thought 4 songs could be recorded in just 2 hours! Later on, Chris even let me hop on the big chair to press the record button while he was in the live room helping out with vocals for a brilliant EDM song! I had a great time working with Chris and the other two interns this weekend and I'm very excited to go into the studio next weekend and get to work again!

Until next time, Kevin Gruber
