Learned about Digital Audio, samples rates and bit depths! Learned about binary codes, bit values and the Nyquist Theorum. Sebastian stressed how important it is to know what sample rate, bit depth, format and file type is being used! There was a lot of math in this lesson but I didn't mind that since I'm a numbers dweeb.
Friday was fun, my mentor invited me to a live recording at the Hochstein School of Music & Dance, http://hochstein.org/, and I was able to see how he set up all the mic's. There were 2 beautiful Steinway piano's and the performance was in a beautiful auditorium with great acoustics. I was able to listen on Sebastian's headset to see how he could change the effect of the sound by focusing on different mics that he had placed in the piano, in front of the piano and also mic's focused on the reflections in the auditorium.
Saturday I went back to ACME studio, and helped set up for a rock band's live session. It was a basic set up consisting of one drummer, a bass, guitar and singer/vocals. The guys were called Wilkes Booth, http://www.wilkesbooth.com/, and were awesome musicians, really great sound and energy. I helped Sebastian by hooking up XLR cables into the patch and setting up the wires to each mic and amps, etc. He showed me everything from beginning to end and to watch the musicians come in and rock out and see it transform in Pro Tools was awesome. I'm excited to learn the program!
