Well another week flew by and one more lesson with Joe Haze. I feel like I'm learning SOO much in such a short period of time!! We talked about so much this week!
I learned a lot of basic things: bit depth, sample rate, Nyquist frequency... but the most important thing I learned that I will use most frequently is drum editing. I got to "drive" and take over the console. He taught me how to allign drums to the beat they should be perfectly on, alligning the beginning of the attack on the beat. It is amazing how much more tight and clean they sound. Tedious, but something that makes a huge difference.
He also told me about a project that he has coming us that he wants me to be a part of. He's going to hold a session in a few weeks where he said I will be in charge of miking drums, editing them while other students of his will be miking the next set of instruments. I am excited he is trusting me with some responsibility. I know that he (understandably and rightfully) doesn't trust students at first until they prove themselves, and am glad that I have become trustworthy and adept at what I am learning enough to gain his respect.
Next week we will be doing more drum editing for a couple songs he has to get to clients as well as post-audio for a short film to be entered into Slamdance Film Festival. I am so stoked to have an IMDB credit so early in my career and be able to feel comfortable in music production as well as audio production in film! I am passionate about both and think I have a lot to contribute to both industries. Can't wait til next week!
